Let me explain: the variety of the goat family called Angora is assumed to have originated in or around Tibet in the Himalayas. Somehow a number of the animals ended up in the Ankara region in Turkey somewhere in the 16th century, where they were promptly called Angora goats, Angora being the original name of Ankara. And guess what: Ankara/Angora was home to the Angora rabbit … As for mohair, the term is supposedly a corruption of the Arabic term for the hair of this type of goat. Oh my.

Important to know is that mohair wool is one of the most luxurious fibres around, famous for its natural sheen, high lustre and cosy fluffiness. It is very durable, naturally elastic, flame and crease resistant, and it does not felt. Plus of course, its great insulating properties make mohair or mohair mix garments deliciously warm in winter and pleasantly light on starry summer nights.
